with a dash of organized chaos & a pinch of controlled mayhem, and blessings galore!

Welcome to my blog, as my title suggests, my life, most of the time, is an oxymoron. Bad things turn good, planned things end up out of control, and things I absolutely know for certain, I find out I actually have no clue about. For a few years now I have been annoying people with my updates on Face Book, and have decided to stop forcing my life experiences on them. I have learned that not everyone thinks that God is the definition of "Awesome", and deserves all the glory, and the best of us at all times, not everyone, gets as excited as I do when one of my chickens lays an egg, or my dog snores. Nor are they, in love with my husband and could care less if he does something super cute to show his love for me. Some, are not interested in what my kids say or do, no matter how funny and good looking they are. Some do not agree with my politics, or religion, or how I choose to educate, or the millions, I save with coupons, and making my own cleaners,(well, maybe not millions) BUT, some do and that is why you are here. So I hope you find my blog, interesting, entertaining, and educational, but most of all...REAL.

It is so hard to say goodbye...

Today, I had the heartbreaking task, of saying goodbye to my precious cat of 15 yrs. He was such a wonderful critter. He was so good natured, He  liked getting a bath, being held like a baby, and riding in the car, without a carrier.
Butterscotch, had been going down for awhile. An injury 7-8 yrs ago, left him limping(it was always a little worse when company came over, funny how he could barely walk then, but liked jumping on top of the house to sun). He was becoming blind, and his hearing was bad. He also had gotten to where he could not bathe himself, and stayed sick alot. I had always said, when he could no longer eat on his own, then it would be time to go. Well, after two days of watching him look for his food, with it under his nose, not being able to eat it, and still begging for food, it was time.
I gave him his last bath last night, put a towel down in the passenger seat this morning, set my buddy on it, for his last car ride. As always he was the best of traveling companions, sitting quietly, and enjoying an ear rub. Me on the other hand, was quite the sobbing mess.
When we arrived at the vet's office, I gently wrapped my sweet friend up in the towel, and carried him like a baby on his back,(his favorite way to be loved on) and carried him and a shoe box, into the office.
I walked into the office, and the receptionist asked me what I was there for. I began to tear up, she looked at the shoebox, and knew. In a knowing and gentle voice she said "It's okay" took me to an exam room, and finished getting the information.
A few mins. later the Dr. came in. She was very comforting, and told me she had and "old man" too, and it was gonna be ok. She gave him a sedative first, and gave me a few more mins. While I was holding and talking to my friend for the last time, a woman carrying a Shih-tzu, came in the room. She said that she was sorry to bother me, but she was in the room next door, and heard what I was there for. She hugged me tightly, and told me that she understood my pain, and was praying for my peace, and comfort. A total stranger, she was, but I felt so touched an comforted by her presence, I knew that her being there was not an accident. I know that He, sent her to me, as He has always found ways of getting me through hard times. I never view things as being random or accidental. Thank you again Lord.
The Dr. and her assistant came back in, and the sweet woman left. My darling Butterscotch was sleeping soundly, and purring loudly as usual. I laid him on the table, and as I stroked his soft head, the assistant, was rubbing one little foot, as the Dr. gently shaved his other leg, just a little. She explained to me, that the medicine, in the shot, was an overdose of anesthesia, and would gently slow his breathing and stop his heart. As she administered the shot, his sweet familiar purring, got softer and softer, and then stopped all together. She listened for a heartbeat, then softly told me, he was at rest.
I have been a sobbing mess all day, and while I fell better for Butterscotch, my heart is breaking for my loss. It is so hard to say goodbye to the ones you love, even when they are an animal. He was a wonderful part of this family, and will be missed dearly.

Frugal Fundamentals IV, DIY Dishwasher Detergent, and a Scrumtious Sugar Scrub!

It has been awhile, and I apologize, but been a very busy couple of months, but that is for another time. This blog is for some, yummy, simple, new, D.I.Y., money saving concoctions.

 First Up...
Homemade Dishwasher Detergent:

1 box Borax
1 box Arm and Hammer Washing Soda (not baking soda)
3 cups Salt (can also use Epsom salts)
24 packets lemonade drink mix (unsweetened Kool-Aid or equivalent)
1 canister of Lemi-Shine (found in dishwashing isle)

Mix first 4 ingredients together. (be careful not to inhale too deeply, as the powders are fine)

Use 1 Tbls in dispenser

Sprinkle Lemi-Shine in bottom of  DW, or add to pre-wash dipenser.

A few answers, to questions, I am sure you, want to ask.

The lemonade drink mix, is for citric acid. The color may stain your dispenser, but will not harm dishes. You can find citric acid, in the canning isle, if you would rather use that.

The Lemi-Shine, keeps plastics from getting that greasy feeling, and fogging over.

Salt softens the water.

Yes, it will clump. Adding 1/4 cup rice, will help absorb moisture. It will rinse right through dishwasher, so no problem.

BTW, I have seen some that use vinegar instead of the Lemi-Shine, you will just have to see which you like best.

My Favorite Sugar Scrub...

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup coconut oil

Mix together and store in jar with lid, or other air tight container. (You can store in fridge if worried about bacteria, but I use mine too fast to ever have concerns, and store it in the bathroom.)

Now most recipes will call for just enough olive oil or almond oil to make it somewhere between liquid and paste, that is fine. I like to use coconut oil, because it is solid at room temp, and turns liquid on your skin. It stays on your skin, much better, and makes your skin feel yummy.

To apply, use finger tips ( or wooden craft stick) to stir up mixture, with finger tips,  gently rub in circular motion on face. (Excessive pressure can result in skin damage, so go easy.) You can use all over body, especially during the winter months. Rinse and pat skin dry gently with towel.

When I start to get into the shower I take mine with me, and use it right before I get out.

You may want to rinse tub/shower/or sink out with hot water after use, in case of oily residue, and to prevent possible fall risk. I have not had any, but I do rinse it and run my used towel over the shower floor.

I hope everyone has a chance to try these out, and let me and others know if you liked them, or not so much.
